Sociology Subject Matter Expert (SME) & Content Writer
An academic role focused on creating and updating study materials, model answer keys, and current affairs resources for UPSC Sociology Optional students.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft comprehensive model answers for Previous Year Questions (PYQs) from 2013 onwards, ensuring they incorporate standard definitions, sociologist references, and current data.
- Update and proofread class booklets, textbooks, and handouts to keep them aligned with the latest UPSC syllabus and question trends.
- Curate daily/weekly current affairs booklets specifically highlighting sociological dimensions of news stories (e.g., caste census debate, tribal development schemes, urban migration patterns).
- Draft high-quality questions for the Sociology test series under the direct guidance of Pranay Sir.
- Conduct extensive research on sociological journals, reports from ministries, and international bodies (UN, WHO, etc.) to extract case studies.
- Write detailed articles and syllabus explainers for the IAS Gurukul blog to improve organic search visibility.
- Coordinate with the design team to create visual mind-maps, flowcharts, and diagrams for inclusion in the study material.
- Review student feedback on study material to rectify errors or add clarifications in subsequent editions.
Requirements
- Post-graduation (MA or PhD) in Sociology from a recognized university, or UGC-NET/JRF qualification.
- Alternatively, a senior UPSC candidate who has cleared Mains with Sociology Optional and scored 270+ marks.
- In-depth understanding of both Paper-I (Sociological Thinkers, Stratification, Science, Research Methods) and Paper-II (Indian Society, Social Structure, Caste System, Agrarian Social Structure).
- Flawless written English, professional grammar, and a scholarly writing style.
- Strong self-organization skills, meeting tight deadlines for test series and material updates.
- Prior experience in content writing or research in civil services preparation is highly preferred.
